Making Time for God in Every Season
A couple of weeks ago, I talked about the importance of doing devotionals with your kids and spending time with the Lord. But what happens on days like this morning when I didn’t get my full devotional time—or any devotional time at all?
Seasons of Devotion Look Different
There are seasons where it’s a lot harder than others. Sometimes, it works out to wake up early, have your coffee in a quiet house, open your Bible, pray, and journal. I love those seasons when they happen. But there are many seasons when they don’t.
I want to encourage you today with this: God doesn’t just want to be first on your list and then set aside while you tackle everything else. He wants to be the center on which your life turns.
A Biblical Perspective
Let’s look at The Lord’s Prayer in the Passion Translation:
"Our Father dwelling in the heavenly realms, may the glory of your name be the center on which our lives turn." (Matthew 6:9)
I love this visual. So often, we hear the message to “put God first,” and while that is true, life doesn’t always allow for a neat, orderly prioritization. What if you’re in a season with a newborn who needs you every moment? What if you have deadlines, commitments, or unexpected challenges that demand your time?
Inviting God Into Every Moment
Sometimes, we feel guilty because our devotionals don’t look the way we think they should. But God isn’t just a first-thing-in-the-morning priority—He wants to be part of your entire day. He wants to be with you as you do the dishes, pick up the kids, meet deadlines, and navigate the chaos of life. Your time with Him isn’t limited to sitting down with a Bible; He is in everything you do.
This doesn’t mean we neglect Scripture or intentional time in His presence. What we focus on feeds our souls and shapes how we see the world. But we don’t need to feel guilt or shame if our devotional time looks different in different seasons.
Living With God at the Center
God is always present, and every moment is a new opportunity to invite Him into our day. So, release the pressure of doing it “perfectly.” Live authentically with Him. Talk to Him throughout your day. Make Him the center, and everything else will revolve around Him naturally.
