Turning Your Car Into a Kingdom Space

Does This Sound Familiar? You’ve wrestled your kids into the car after a chaotic morning. Someone forgot their shoes, another spilled something, and you’re already running late. Finally, everyone’s buckled in, and you’re behind the wheel, but the frustration lingers. Before you know it, you’re halfway through a lecture, unloading all the pent-up emotions from the morning onto your kids. They’re trapped—they can’t escape—and you’re venting because, well, they’re there, and you’ve got a captive audience.

I’ve been there more times than I care to admit. But one day, God shifted my perspective on what the car could be—a place of connection and restoration, not tension and lectures.

For many of us, the car is a home away from home. Between school drop-offs, errands, activities, and appointments, moms spend a significant amount of time in the car. Yet, I realized I hadn’t been treating the car as an extension of the kingdom atmosphere I strive to cultivate in my home.

God reminded me that my car could be more than just a vehicle; it could be a kingdom space. It’s not just a place to get from point A to point B—it’s an opportunity to create an environment where my kids experience God’s love, encouragement, and peace.

Transforming the Car into a Kingdom Space

When I began viewing the car as an extension of the kingdom, it changed everything. Instead of seeing it as “just the car,” I started seeing it as a moving ministry. It became a place where we could connect with each other and with God in intentional ways.

Here are some ways I’ve been transforming our car rides:

  1. Worship and Prayer
We turn on worship music, sing along, and lift up our prayers as we drive. Sometimes, we pray over the places we pass or for people we’re headed to visit.

  2. Devotionals on the Go
We bring devotionals along for longer drives, sharing a scripture or thought for the day.

  3. Encouragement and Connection
Instead of using car rides as lecture zones, I’ve shifted to speaking words of life and encouragement to my kids. We share stories, discuss our day, and practice gratitude together.

  4. An Atmosphere of Peace
I’ve started seeing the car as a sanctuary, a place where God’s presence reigns. This mindset helps me approach sibling disputes or other disruptions with grace, modeling the peace I want my kids to carry.

The Kingdom Mindset

One of my favorite ideas came from a friend who anoints her car wheels with oil, praying that everywhere they drive, they leave a trail of God’s glory. What a beautiful picture of how we can bring the kingdom wherever we go! Our cars can carry peace, joy, and God’s presence into the world, leaving a spiritual impact we may never fully see.

When we intentionally create a kingdom-centered atmosphere in our cars, it not only transforms the ride but also shifts the tone for wherever we’re headed. Our kids start to expect connection, peace, and even fun during car rides. And as we fill our time with worship and encouragement, we arrive at our destinations filled with the fruits of the Spirit, ready to overflow God’s love onto others.

A Challenge for This Week

If you’ve found yourself turning the car into a lecture hall (like I have), I encourage you to pause and reimagine it as a place where the kingdom of God can thrive. How can you shift the atmosphere in your car this week?

Let’s make the car a space where our kids learn to encounter God, feel encouraged, and build connection. The time we spend on the road can be so much more than getting from point A to point B—it can be a journey filled with purpose and His presence.

You’ve got this, mama. Let’s bring the kingdom wherever we go— even in the car.
